Birthstones
A birthstone is simply the gem traditionally given for the month someone was born. The modern list used by jewellers worldwide is the one below. Sri Lanka produces several of these stones — sapphire, garnet, spinel, topaz, moonstone among them — which is why so many of them appear in the Enrayge collection.
If your month is one we keep in stock, the links go to the piece or collection. If it is not, we can usually source a stone and make a custom ring or pendant; message us on WhatsApp.

January — garnet
Garnet is one of Sri Lanka’s oldest jewellery stones: deep red, raspberry rhodolite and cinnamon hessonite (gomedha, one of the navaratna nine). It is tough enough for daily wear. See the garnet collection.
February — amethyst
Purple quartz, traditionally the stone of clarity. We set it as a solitaire pendant and as stud earrings in 925 sterling silver.
March — aquamarine
We do not keep aquamarine in the ready-to-ship case. If you would like a March birthstone ring or pendant, send us a budget and we will source a stone.
April — diamond, and an honest alternative
We do not set natural diamonds as centre stones. Halo accents described as “American diamonds” are cubic zirconia. If you want a natural colourless gem, white topaz and white sapphire are the stones we use.
May — emerald
Fine emerald is a commission stone for us. For a vivid green that we do set, look at the chrome diopside and white topaz pendant.
June — pearl and moonstone
June has two modern birthstones. Cultured pearl studs and a one-of-a-kind rainbow moonstone pendant from Sri Lanka both live in the current collection.
July — ruby
Ruby is red corundum, the same mineral as sapphire. We make ruby pieces to order. For centuries, red and pink spinel was mistaken for ruby — including some of the most famous “rubies” in European crown jewels. It is a beautiful July gift in its own right.
August — peridot and spinel
Peridot is the traditional August stone; spinel was added to the modern list and Sri Lanka produces it in blue, purple and pink. Our spinel collection is the August shelf in this shop.
September — sapphire
The month and the island’s signature gem. Read the Ceylon sapphire guide before you buy, then browse sapphire jewellery or start a custom sapphire ring.
October — opal and tourmaline
Both are commission stones for us. Tourmaline in particular is found in Sri Lanka and we can source it for a custom piece.
November — topaz and citrine
London blue, Swiss blue and white topaz, plus golden citrine. See the topaz collection and citrine earrings.
December — tanzanite, turquoise, zircon
These three are made to order. Blue topaz is the December gift we can ship now from the topaz collection.
Not sure which stone suits the person you are buying for? Message us on WhatsApp with a month, a budget and whether you prefer earrings, a pendant or a ring. We will point you to what we have, or make it.
